Traceable to NREL Standards: SunCore’s PV Cell Design at 22% Efficiency
Receives Certification from Newport Corporation Laboratory
Third-party validates the harvest of greater spectral bandwidth resulting in higher charge output.
Irvine, California, April 2012 – Newport Corporation (NASDAQ: NEWP) has independently certified SunCore’s Photovoltaic (PV) cell as demonstrating 21.6% (+/- .5% accuracy) efficiency traceable to U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) standards. SunCore’s PV cell design combined with proprietary circuitry technology amplifies even the lowest amount of available light exposure to convert into the highest level of charge output and keep a mobile device off the power grid indefinitely.
SunCore produces light-powered charging systems that adapt to portable consumer applications, oftentimes with size restrictions. From Smartphones to automobiles, systems replenish a device’s on-board battery by converting available light into electricity, faster than traditional solar-based systems.
Patent Issued - PV Multi-Junction Wavelength Compensation July 2011 - Irvine, California
SunCore announces the issuance of US patent no. 12/389,307 granted in December 2010 for Photovoltaic (PV) Multi-Junction Wavelength Compensation System and Method. As a utility patent, the photovoltaic energy functionality between SunCore’s PV cell data collection and SunCore’s Charge Management Circuitry provides broad protection to make it difficult for a competing product to avoid patent infringement. SunCore is able to safe guard the original design and protect the many different product variations under this single utility patent.
The PV Multi-Junction Wavelength Compensation System compensates for uneven wavelengths produced as the device changes location, sometimes quickly, from outdoors to indoors or from outdoor shade to an incandescent-lit room. The ability to harvest the greatest amount of energy from virtually any light environment and manage that power effectively, allows continuous mobile device charging no matter the situation. The result is extra operating time for the end-user of the portable device. “This wavelength compensation method patent formally recognizes the revolutionary approach we bring to the powering of mobile devices,” said SunCore’s CEO and co-founder Steve Brimmer. Continuing, “Invention is not a singular event; it’s a journey of innovation taken alongside our customers to empower all consumers of portable electronic devices.
Patent Issued - Solar-based Stand Alone Charger June 2011 - Irvine, California
Recently unveiled, the November 2010 issuance of US patent no. D628,148 for the design of a standalone light-powered mobile device charger. This design patent governs the unique form-factor and systems required to address portable power demands faced by manufacturers of mobile consumer electronics, as they increase the number of features and functions in new mobile products. Named NovaCell™, this is SunCore’s first product to leverage the intellectual property attributed to this design patent.
The standalone product design closely tracks the mobile consumer device market along with consumer usage preferences, and so, delivers a high level of power output to make it possible for mobile consumer electronics to be truly portable.
"Understanding the expanding usage model of mobile consumer devices, delivering power in a portable form-factor is critical so manufacturers’ can continue the successful introduction of power-hungry Smartphones, tablets, digital cameras and other next generation mobile electronics” states Steve Brimmer CEO and co-founder of SunCore Corporation. He continues, “Our patent strategy is an integral part of our business development; and as with the NovaCell, it lays a strong foundation for future product and more patent filings. It’s this type of thinking that enables our light-powered systems to take a leadership position to define the powering of mobile consumer electronics.
